After some crazy April storms, our wonderful volunteers were gifted with clear skies. We're very excited about some new additions to our garden. To start off, we planted two cherry trees. With those added to our six apple trees, we'll have "community garden pies" for years to come. We also planted a full bed of two varieties of asparagus. It will be hard to wait two years for our first harvest.
Jim Schmidt from Roots and Shoots Community Garden in Overland was kind enough to donate wine cap mushroom spawn. We found a nice home for it in an older pile of wood chips. Watching those grow will be fun and educational.
We planted the community potato bed, and the rest of the strawberry beds. The two children's plots and the St. Stephens Food Pantry plot were filled with young plants and seeds. Many of us also got our individual plots planted.
We ended the day with a delicious potluck lunch, surrounded by friends and the beauty of the garden in spring. We look forward to seeing everyone next month for the Kids Fun Day!
